This Friday, the House will consider H.R. 3755, the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act.”
You might think this would help women with cancer, heart disease, or other illnesses or diseases. Or perhaps it is to protect women from rape or violence. With such a comprehensive name, you would hope it would include elder care. After all, women are still women even after their childbearing years have come to an end. Of course, you would assume this bill would include prenatal, labor and delivery, and postnatal care for women.
Unfortunately, you would be wrong.
The so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act,” while sounding benign, is downright disingenuous and dangerous to the very lives it purports to protect.
H.R. 3755 as proposed would impose abortion on demand for any reason up until birth. And it is deceptively named for a reason.
If passed into law, this draconian measure would override past, present, and future pro-life laws at both the federal and state levels.
It would remove nearly all protections for the unborn (including laws preventing late-term abortions, laws preventing abortion when a baby can feel pain, and laws preventing abortion based on a Down syndrome diagnosis). Even gender-based abortions until birth would be legal.
Black women and other women of color have disproportionately high rates of abortion. Most abortions are performed on those who are the poorest among us. Abortion solves nothing. H.R. 3755 would put more pressure on women, rather than offer relief and holistic solutions to those in poverty.
Pro-life advocates are more appropriately calling H.R. 3755 what it actually means: the “Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act.”
They say women deserve “protection.” This bill will not protect females — or males — in the womb. It will not help any woman who has suffered an abortion and lived to regret it. Teens and women who have died from abortion will never recover.
They choose not to believe that unborn human beings feel pain when they are in the womb. Anyone who has worked in the NICU knows little ones can feel pain.
This bill would also force medical professionals who do not want to perform or participate in abortions to do so. So much for the “right to choose.”
How can abortion up to birth be OK with them through the barbaric methods of partial-birth abortion, dismemberment, or salt poisoning?
Women aren’t stupid. H.R. 3755 isn’t health care. It means death. Women deserve better than the deceptive and disingenuous so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act.” Every child has an inherent right to life, enshrined in the Declaration of Independence.
The so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act” is dead wrong for women and children.
