Dads and Dobbs

After celebrating Father’s Day, we approach the first anniversary of the Dobbs decision. It is not only the lives of women and children who are protected from the pain of abortion in nearly two dozen states, but men, too.

For nearly 30 years, perhaps the saddest surprise to me is listening to men who have suffered in silence. You see, abortion also hurts men.

From the young man who told me about his girlfriend’s abortion while he was in military school who said he was a “coward,” to the passenger next to me on a plane while flying to a campus event, to a home repairman whose wife had an abortion against his wishes, and the husband who didn’t learn about an abortion until years later, the suffering is palpable.

For every woman who mourns, there is a man who has also lost a child, whether he knew it then or later.

How much pain will satiate abortion providers and their surrogates? The fact is, men deserve better than abortion, too.

And while we rightfully focus on the humanity of the unborn child and the needs of the mother, we remember the men who mourn as well. Let them know that there is hope and healing for them, too. The pro-life community understands and supports them, and they are welcome at Feminists for Life.

Because women — and men– deserve better,
