Feminists for Life President Serrin Foster issued the following statement: “We urge swift and universal support by senators of both parties of Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act, which allows pregnant moms to claim the Child Tax Credit for their unborn children.”
This bill builds on the Child Tax Credit provisions included in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act by supporting families and pregnant mothers with the many costs that come with carrying a baby, as well as planning for the care of a newborn baby.
This bill (S. 1150) is sponsored and was reintroduced in the U.S. Senate by Montana Sen. Steve Daines, who said Monday, “From stocking up on diapers to taking time off work for their child’s prenatal care, expecting parents begin providing for their child as soon as they learn they are having a baby. All parents should be able to claim the Child Tax Credit to help them better prepare for the arrival of their newborn.”
The bill is co-sponsored by Sens. Ben Sasse, Deb Fischer, Kevin Cramer, Joni Ernst, and James Lankford.
In the House (H.R. 2266), the bill’s sponsor is Rep. Mark Meadows, and it is co-sponsored by Reps. Randy Weber, Paul Gosar, Matt Gaetz, David Roe, Jim Banks, Ted Budd, Roger Marshall, Trent Kelly, John Joyce, Ann Wagner, and Lee Zeldin.
