Birthmothers Deserve Better
SInce the 1990’s, Feminists for Life has worked to ensure birthmothers are remembered and included in pro-woman legislation and campus solutions.
To kick off this Adoption Awareness Month, we shared resources about the full range of adoption options on our Women Deserve Better helpsite.
As we continue to celebrate, we remember what former FFL Board Chair Jessica O’Connor-Petts shared about her experience as a birthmother:
Here is what I learned from Jessica about what birthmothers need and deserve:
Birthmothers deserve to be fully informed.
Birthmothers deserve counseling before and after they place the baby for adoption.
Birthmothers deserve quality medical care.
Birthmothers deserve flexibility from educators.
Birthmothers deserve support from employers.
Birthmothers deserve practical support.

We don’t know how things will turn out. Jessica could never have known that her first born would visit her decades later when he was in college for spring break.
There is life after adoption.
Pass it on.
Because birthmothers, adoptive parents, and their children deserve better,

President
