Abortions up for the first time in 30 years. Our response…

For the first time in three decades, the number of abortions in the United States has increased, according to the Guttmacher Institute, the former research arm of Planned Parenthood.

Although Guttmacher’s data is sound, their conclusions are not. From their report: “An increase in abortion numbers is a positive development if it means people are getting the health care they want and need. Rather than focusing on reducing abortion, policies should instead center the needs of people and protect their right to bodily autonomy.”

This is in keeping with the continued trend of abortion advocates no longer shying away from the reality of abortion as a so-called necessary evil and instead embracing it as a moral good.

“Abortion is a death sentence, not health care,” Serrin said. “Guttmacher’s anti-woman, anti-child policies do nothing to address the unmet needs of women. Abortion masks the problems women face. As Feminists for Life, we are far more interested in solving the problems that women face with nonviolent choices supported by holistic resources and support. Guttmacher’s own research has documented the list of things women need, including accommodations in schools and in the workplace, and especially for the poorest among us. Supportive fathers are also important. We don’t need more women mourning their missing children. Women deserve better.”
