WomenDeserveBetter.com Launches
As a New Resource for Women

Alexandria, VA (July 11) Feminists for Life of America debuts a new online resource for women today. WomenDeserveBetter.com aims to support women by providing education, resources, and inspiration in the areas that statistically relate to the feminization of poverty. Organized into four sections — Live, Work, Learn, and Love — the site provides resources for student mothers and working parents as well as birthmothers and parents of special needs children. Feminists for Life aims to do this in a way that no other organization is doing — by delivering this information in FFL’s unique, pro-life feminist voice.

“For us, ‘Women Deserve Better’ means better information, better support, and better choices,” says FFL President Serrin Foster, the creator of the “Women Deserve Better® than Abortion” campaign, who also serves as editor-in-chief of the new website. “Our goal is to provide a solution that is outside the abortion debate. We believe in women. The new site aims to help women help themselves by providing easy-to-understand resources and inspirational content. We believe this is something that everyone can support.”

Women Deserve Better seeks to reach those at highest risk of abortion as well as their support networks. According to the most recent report by the Guttmacher Institute released May 2016:

  • 75% of the women having abortions are the poor and working poor (including those in college who have little or no income),
  • 66% are pursuing post-secondary degrees,
  • 59% are already mothers (including those who had children in high school and during college).

“The Guttmacher Institute’s research confirms that abortion is a reflection that we have not met the needs of women. In a time of great division, there is much work to be done that all feminists and pro-lifers can agree upon,” Foster explains.

Women Deserve Better will:

  • Empower those women most at risk of abortion by offering the tools to build a sustainable and meaningful life for themselves and for their families.
  • Educate through valuable and practical information delivered in a clear and easy to understand manner.
  • Inspire readers with what is possible and remind every woman to never underestimate herself.

Women Deserve Better focuses on four key areas:

  • WORK achieving sustainable employment and financial independence
  • LIVE maintaining practical home life security
  • LEARN completing one’s education
  • LOVE creating a strong support network through paternal support and/or other relationships

“The latest issue of The American Feminist, “End the Feminization of Poverty,” illuminates the issues which drive women to abortion — including the poverty of spirit since the Roe v. Wade decision. “Women Deserve Better is a key tool to do just that,” Foster says. “Life brings challenges. We aim to bring empowerment, because as an organization, FFL will never underestimate women.”

Established in 1972, Feminists for Life of America is a nonsectarian, nonpartisan, grassroots organization that seeks real solutions to the challenges women face. FFL’s efforts are shaped by the core feminist values of justice, nondiscrimination, and nonviolence. Feminists for Life of America continues the tradition of early American feminists such as Susan B. Anthony, who opposed abortion.

FFL recognizes that abortion is a reflection that our society has failed to meet the needs of women. We are dedicated to systematically eliminating the root causes that drive women to abortion — primarily lack of practical resources and support — through holistic, woman-centered solutions. Women deserve better than abortion. To achieve our mission, Feminists for Life has:

  • led the effort to develop on-campus resources and support for underserved pregnant and parenting students and is an outspoken opponent of pregnancy discrimination.
  • successfully advocated benefits for poor and pregnant women through the State Child Health Insurance Program.
  • worked in coalition with other women’s organizations to defeat the mandatory “family cap” and other punitive child exclusion provisions in welfare reform.
  • helped to prevent poverty and coerced abortions due to threats to withhold child support through passage of the Enhanced Child Support Act.
  • served on the National Taskforce Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, which worked to pass the Violence Against Women Act. FFL’s President also testified before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee in support of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, also known as “Laci and Conner’s Law.”
