Dear Feminist for Life,
Every April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Feminists for Life remembers all those who have been affected. We focus on eradicating sexual violence, knowing that one in every six American women has experienced sexual assault in her lifetime.
I am that one.
Women deserve better than sexual assault and rape. We deserve holistic resources and support in time of crisis. Pregnancy resulting from rape requires our utmost attention. First and foremost, support and resources – including all nonviolent choices for the mother and the innocent child. Second, steadfast justice in the wake of the crime, and third, that we all rally together to create a society where women and girls are valued for who they are and not objectified or sexualized.
I hope you will join me when I share my story “Victory Over Violence” at St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN on April 9. I also encourage those who are on campuses across the country to take part in vigils to “Take Back the Night.”
Other events this month include FFL VP Sally Winn presenting “Refuse to Choose: Reclaiming Feminism” at Georgia Tech on April 8, Williams College, MA, on April 17. She will also moderate the second annual Pregnancy Resource Forum at Boston University on April 16.
Look for FFL President Serrin Foster to present “The Feminist Case Against Abortion” to students at George Mason University, VA on April 14. (Details to be announced soon.) Then she will moderate the first-ever joint FFL Pregnancy Resource ForumSM atWofford College (4pm) and Converse College (8:30pm) on April 23, exactly a year after presenting her lecture the year before!
Our former College Outreach Program Coordinator Chaunie Brusie, RN, who is now a mother of three and author of Tiny Blue Lines, will speak for FFL at Seattle University on April 28.
Serrin already has plans to speak outside Seattle at the Life Conference in Tacoma next October and also in Chicago.
There are a few more events for this spring in the works and lots more events in the planning stages for next fall, so if you are hoping to get an FFL speaker to your benefit, pro-life conference, rally, or campus event, please be sure to contact info@feministsforlife.org to lock in your date now!
And thank you for all you do to protect women and children from the spectrum of violence – especially rape and abortion, or as Mary Meehan calls it, “a double injustice.” So true. Through our combined efforts we will achieve “Victory Over Violence.”
Because women deserve better,
Joyce McCauley-Benner
Mother and FFL Speaker
