In 1869 Dr. Charlotte Lozier was applauded by the media and feminists for her refusal to perfom an abortion on a young woman named Caroline Fuller and her offer instead to assist her. Lozier had the man who brought Fuller for an abortion arrested after he threatened Lozier. At the time Lozier was pregnant with her third child. A few weeks later Lozier was critically injured in an accident, delivered her baby prematurely and died. The masses mourned her.
